Easily make the most of your day

I think it is safe to say most of us have busy lives now days. For the longest time it seemed “busy” was worn as a badge of honor. Some how we equated busier with better.

All busier does is hack us, gets us in comparison mode and drains our energy. I discovered first hand busier is not better. What does matter is what we do with our time and where we do it.

Making the most of my day

For the past fourteen years I have spent a large portion of my time in my car traveling for work. I discovered early on I could make use of this time by doing more than listening to the radio. Don’t get me wrong I am not opposed to radio, especially music. Music can be very uplifting and empowering. I am not saying radio is bad. However, I would find that I was listening to talk radio, ads and other programs that were hacking my time.

Instead I started listening to podcasts that were relevant to my “side-gig” at the time, listening to books that I couldn’t seem to find the time to read and listening to programs that lifted my spirits, like Joyce Meyer. I of course listen to music too. I love Christian music. It can get me pumped immediately.

You may not spend hours a day in a car like I have for years, but what do you do when you are waiting in the doctors office, waiting in your car for a pickup of your online order or while you’re waiting for your car to be serviced. I bet most of us would say we scroll social media. Again, not that social media itself is bad, but the amount of time we devote to it when we could be doing something more productive can be.

Thankfully you can choose to do things a little differently to make the most of your time and your day.

Maybe money speaks to you more

Maybe dollars speak more to you than time. Think about how much time you spend on social media, watching tv or even just commercials. The average person sees a total of one hour of commercials per day. That is 365 hours of commercials per year. Now think about how much money you are losing in that amount of time. Yes, losing money.

Look at it this way. Let’s say your time is worth $100 per hour. If you waste those 365 hours on commercials alone, you are burning $36,500 a year! That is just watching commercials. What about all the mindless scrolling on social or the hours of tv watching.

This isn’t about judgement, but rather a wake up call to you can utilize your time to your advantage and make the most of your life.

If you want to reach your goals and live out your dreams them perhaps it is time to reconsider what you do with your time. Choose what you will and won’t allow into your life and to take up your time. The space you create for your life will create you.

“Agency is the place where you conduct business. It recognizes your ownership over a particular space. Unhackability is impossible until we realize that we’re each responsible for our own space. When we walk into someone else’s space, we let them choose the inputs for us.” Kary Oberbrunner, author of Unhackable
