You can be a person of excellence

How to be a person of excellence

I am the first to admit I have had, and still have, unhealthy habits in my life. I have learned to create some healthy habits though.

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then is not an act, but a habit.”- Aristotle.

If you want to be a person of excellence, then you need to have healthy habits. I realized that I was telling myself, “I can’t,” “I can’t get up earlier,” “I can’t do this,” or “I don’t have time.” Those are all lies.

Not a morning person

I told myself forever that I was not a morning person. NOT, let me stress that! Anyone that knows me, who has been around me in the morning, knows that I was not a morning person. At least, those were the words that I told myself, but it was a lie that I believed. I believed that I was a night owl.

The truth is, I have discovered this past year, in the year of 2020, that I can get up early. I can be a morning person (granted I need some coffee, at least that’s what I’ve told myself. LOL.)

It started in my mind and what I believed about myself. Creating healthy habits in your life has to start in your mind, with what you tell yourself and what you speak and believe about yourself.

If you’re telling yourself, “I can’t” do something, or “I don’t have time,” those are lies. You need to stop listening to those thoughts right now! Start today, telling yourself, “I can do this,” “I do have the time.”

It’s unhealthy habits that are keeping you from your healthy habits. Once I started getting up earlier (I’m talking over an hour earlier) I added an exercise routine to my morning. I am so proud of my husband because he has stuck with it way better than I have. For a year he’s been getting up and going to the gym at 5:30 in the morning. Believe me, that’s something I didn’t ever think I would see him doing either. It reiterates that it is possible if you start telling yourself a different message in your mind.

You can do it!

YOU can do it! There are some mornings, that my hubby and I need to get up, we should get up, but we don’t. Especially when it’s been cold outside recently. But, those are excuses! That is probably what find yourself doing, and maybe not wanting to admit to it, but if you’re anything like me and most human beings, you’re making excuses for why you can’t get things done. Instead, find reasons why you can.

I really don’t like it when I hear, “I don’t have time.” (Including from myself!) Because it is an excuse. We all have the same 24 hours in a day. Most of us have eight hours to work, eight hours to sleep, and then eight hours to do everything else.

The problem is, if you are spending those other eight hours on social media, on the internet, or watching television for hours at a time. There’s nothing wrong with doing any of those things. We all deserve time to relax, chill out and enjoy life. Don’t beat yourself up if you’re doing these things. It isn’t bad in and of itself. Like most things in life, moderation is the key.

It is the amount of time that you may be spending on these activities that could be the problem. If it’s multiple hours on social media, hours on the internet shopping, (I’ve caught myself, I’m gonna admit it right now. I’m guilty) and watching TV.

One small change

Those are three of the biggest time wasters, where you could be doing other more important and productive, things. You have time. I have time.

It’s important to add, you definitely need to make time for yourself to take care of yourself. Your health is vital. You need to create healthy habits in all areas of life.

Take a look at your life right now. Look at one unhealthy habit that you could start changing today. That’s your challenge for today, to do an evaluation of your current life. Take action. Even one small change can create a huge difference in your life.

  1. Be brave.
  2. Be honest.
  3. Look at excuses you might be making.
  4. Ask yourself, “what is one unhealthy habit that I can change starting today, to be more healthy?”
  5. Take action to make that happen.
